Inside Look at Basic Web Design

The art of basic web design is not as complicated as you might think. With a little know how you can make your own website easily. Now there are two types of basic web design making. There is from scratch and then there are you do it yourself website where you are given all the tools you need to make a basic website. Remember we are talking about basic web designing not web programming which can often get confused with web designing. Your basic web design is more about the style of a site and the way it looks.

Learning Terminology

If you are building from scratch then you need to familiarize yourself in the web designing  terminology. If you have any computer know how you should be familiar with these words like jpg/gif, or html, xml, xhtml, and css. If you are not familiar with these terms take a break from making your website and read up on them and how they work. They are vital to the overall look of your website, in which they basically give you your  look to your website. If you're looking to add more complex stuff, i.e. videos, sounds or animations, you're going to need plug-ins. If you've ever installed Adobe Flash or Java, then you've already familiar with why they are needed.

Types of Web Pages

There are also two kinds of web pages: static and dynamic. A static page must be updated manually by the programmer while a dynamic page can adapt to the individual user based on time, location, and other data entered by the site user. To be "web accessible" a page must have a valid markup language, give the text equivalents for any non-text data (such as pictures or videos), and all hyperlinks need to make sense when taken out of context.

Before You Start

Before you make your site, it's important that you have a plan. This means what is the purpose of your website? Is it going to be about Books? Movies? A music band? Who is going to be your target audience? What is your content going to be? As always make sure your content is related to the theme of your site. You do not want to talk about country music when your site is about heavy metal bands. Another thing to be mindful of is when you are picking colors use only two primary solid colors, on for your background color and one for your text. Make sure these two colors do not conflict each other. A perfect bad example would be a white background with pale yellow text. This might sound nice, but the yellow will soon wear on the readers eyes and even hurt them, and they will never want to come back to your site that gives them headaches when reading it. Lastly make sure your site runs smoothly before you launch. Test, test and more testing, will guarantee you basic web design success.
